Message from RA Vice Chairman – Enhancements to RA Insurance

To: All RA Members

Re: Further enhancements to the RA Insurance Policy

Colleagues:

The recent March 2016 edition of the RA Newsletter advised all of you about major enhancements to the cover provided for RA Members under the RA Insurance Policy as from today:

 Personal Effects = up from £200 to £300;

 Referees Kit = up from £200 to £300;

 Dental cover = up from £200 to £250;

 plus other improvements and new Sections.

Well, the news has just got even better! We went back again to our insurance providers on your behalf and asked them to sharpen their pencil even further. As a result, we can now confirm the following two additional increases in cover which both take effect as from today:

 Personal Effects = now £350 (up another £50);

 Referees Kit = now £350 (up another £50).

Don’t forget that our Policy also encompasses physiotherapy (including injuries), rehabilitation, public liability, a constant legal helpline, funeral expenses, counselling, total disablement, medical expenses, victim support, hospitalisation, broken bones, plus other benefits and special offers.

These are subject to standard Terms & Conditions. We are extremely grateful to Paul Bentley from our brokers Spencer Hayes Insurance, whose hard work has produced such excellent results for you, our members. We are confident that the RA Insurance Policy is now the market-leader, offering referees the best cover and VFM in the country. But remember – it is only available to FULL MEMBERS of the RA. If you still think that any other provider offers more than we do for the same level of annual premium, then please show us the full policy evidence so we can investigate – we are determined that we will not be beaten!

Just a few points to bear in mind:

 these enhancements automatically kick in today under your current cover (30/09/15 – 29/09/16);

 there is no further action or payment of any kind required on your part;

 all the new cover levels will be carried forward for 2016/17, with the premium staying at £4;

 you are now getting “a lot more for not a penny more”;

 another example of the RA again providing “something for everyone”.

Best Regards,

Ian .

Ian Campbell – RA Board Vice-Chairman

Any interest should be directed to Pete Gibson, League Secretary.

Dave Ollis

It is with great sadness that we announce that Dave Ollis, a member of the North Riding Referee Development Committee, sadly passed away at the weekend.

Dave’s work with and in local football, particularly the Referee Mentoring programme, over the years has been first class, he was a fantastic supporter of new and newly qualified referees.  Dave spent many hours a week on a voluntary basis ensuring mentors were appointed to games to observe referees in action and providing them with the appropriate feedback post match. Last season Dave successfully coordinated the record number of mentor observations (150) for the County FA, such was the sheer amount of hard work and commitment he put into the role.

Dave was a fantastic person; everybody who had the pleasure of meeting him will know just how much of a miss he is going to be to local football and the Referees Development Committee. Our thoughts are with his wife Doreen & family at this very sad time.

The ‘RUTTP?’ event is a unique men only fun- run that takes place every year on Father’s Day organised by local fundraiser Brian Hughes. The annual event helps to raise awareness for prostate cancer whilst raising vital funds for Professor Norman Maitland and his team at the Yorkshire Cancer Research Unit at the University of York, who are world leaders in the field of prostate cancer research.

Now in its fifth year the event has raised £71,000 and this year the target is to bring this total to £100,000. We are very excited to help make this happen along with the support of local sports teams Yorkshire County Cricket Club, York City FC, York City Knights and Tadcaster Albion FC.

We would love as many York RA members as possible to sign up – and do it in ref’s kit to show our collective support for this great cause.

You can sign up here.
